HBO Takes On Netflix In The Nordics, With Its Own Streaming Video Service

HBO is going to launch its first significant over-the-top offering, and it's going to do so in one of the same markets as Netflix. The service, called HBO Nordic, will be launched in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland in mid-October, and could provide some interesting competition to Netflix, which will also soon be entering that region. HBO Nordic is a joint venture between Home Box Office and Parsifal International, which will help bring the company's original programming to the region. Viewers in the Nordic states will have multiple ways of getting HBO Nordic: it will launch a premium, 24-hour live channel that will be distributed through local TV providers. But HBO Nordic will also be available direct to consumers as an on-demand, over-the-top video offering that will cost less than ?10 per month.

iPad Mini possibly revealed in Instapaper iOS access logs

Marco Arment, the creator of save-for-later app Instapaper, revealed an interesting discovery on his blog Thursday that further hints at the existence of Apple's iPad Mini.

Arment writes that he noticed some "curious" devices in the Instapaper iOS app's access logs: the iPad2,5 and the iPad2,6 (alongside the iPhone5,1, though no one's questioning the iPhone 5's existence).

He postulates first that the new iPad designations could refer to process-shrunk versions of the iPad 2, though he admits "that would be a pretty strange move."

His real theory soon surfaces: that the iPad2,5 and iPad2,6 represent the iPad Mini in its Wi-Fi and GSM iterations.

A textbook move

Arment goes on to suggest that based on his observations, the iPad Mini is effectively an iPad 2 stuffed into a smaller, cheaper chassis.

That would grant it Apple's A5 chipset and 512MB of RAM, though by Arment's estimations, the iPad Mini wouldn't launch with a Retina Display.

"It's a textbook Tim Cook supply-chain move: selling the last generation's hardware at a lower price point to expand marketshare," Arment writes.

"But this time, it's more dramatic."

iPad Mini release date

Jailbreakers could theoretically fake whatever iPad designation they wanted to, Arment admits, though he's "never had a device show up there that didn't end up being a real, about-to-be-released Apple device."

So when will the iPad Mini release?

Initial rumors in July predicted the iPad Mini would be revealed on Sept. 12 alongside the iPhone 5, and that both would launch nine days later on Sept. 21.

More recently, "sources" have reported that the iPad Mini launch would take place at an event in October, separate from the September iPhone 5 release event.

Whatever happens, Apple is sure to keep us guessing until the eleventh hour.

Searching for a RP Buddy for One on one over AIM

Hi there everyone I am currently looking for a rp buddy. I am very easy going and nice to be around. Though if i;m not online a lot thats due to work at home. I am a doll maker and my work does takes more attention than anything from the PMs. Unless we're rping over AIM or Emails then you got half that attention. A year had past since the battle with Kronos, the gods been keeping their promise of having the forgotten children expect one. Persephone have a child hidden from Hades through the years until reports of sightings of a half blood with Persephone's scent, angered Hades had sent Nico on the mission to bring this child back to him for it's punishment. Hearing the news from her daughter Demeter hurried towards the camp to tell Chiron asking him for help to bring the young half blood to camp before Hades gets her.

Title of the plot:T-Chan's Mate?

One day Leon had dropped off Chris having word from his department that there's been a mafia drug ring that been acting a little stranger than normal. As if they were looking for someone or something that might gotten lose. After a while D had deiced to send Chris,Po-chan and T-chan for a aren for him to get some cakes for tea time. But half way back home Chris spotted a moving creature in the ally way as he followed it with the two after him. Stopping to see it was female T-chan or that what Chris say it is only no horns and lighter pink hair and clothes. Taking her back after a few arguments on the way D was shocked to see this creature. Knowing it's rare to see another of T-chan's kind and is she what the mafia looking for? Most of all what they have in plan for this mythical creature.

Title of the plot: Demon Tails

After a while since the birds of paradise had die off or flown from the forest belonging to the wolf tribe. Now there was a slight pest that been living around the lands, not a bird but a fellow canine a fox demon. She been teasing and hunting their food near none. Winter starting to come with the wolves with little food, will Koga catch the fox and kill her. Unaware of the fox having hiding in her main den that keeps safe from the wolves. Having one kit already she is determent not to get caught by the wolves and refused the kit to go out of the den until it's safe. But when Koga finds it he makes her chose do what he and the pack says or have to lose her kit and her own life. Chosing to save her child she deiced to become the wolves' servant though life with wolves are not too good or is it?.

Series: Ouran High School Host Club
Roles: Kyoya with OC.
Title of the plot:The Singer and the Host

It was starting to become closer towards Kyoya's and Tamaki's last year of Ouran and with Hunny and Mori managed to visit time to time. As well Tamaki obsessing over Haruhi still Kyoya headed to the second music room to at least clear his hear. Or so he thought, inside the small room where he thought he was alone he heard someone singing, it was one of the newly transferred student from another private school, she was sent to study to become a doctor not a singer. Much like his love of painting he wasn't alone too much when ti comes to the arts. Though when approaching this what he thought it was going to be another princess to make money from the host club, he was very wrong. She was very rude towards him and not that lady like when it came to greeting a host. It had interested in this demon king that one of the girls of the school is very different from the rest. Would she able to help Kyoya to stand alone from the host club and might follow his secret passion or he might do something that he almost did to Haruhi during that warm and stormy summer night.

Title of the plot:When a Phantom meets the new manager

It was a few years after the tragic fire that had done horrible damaged to the paris opera house. Not many know if the ghost still lives within the walls and basement of the theater. Though when it was time for Andre and Firman to sell it to a new owner or to them a poor soul. They never would have guessed a woman manager taking the reigns of the job restoring the opera house and get it back up on it's feet again. After hearing the stories and getting the tour, not believing the tales.After the tour Brea Michel the new manager deiced to spend the night in the old dressing room of Christine Daae thinking it would be a good idea to start early to greet the workers not knowing she would be getting a unwelcome visitor during the night.

Series: Kung Fu Panda
Roles: Po with OC.
Title of the plot:The Valley of Peaches and Kung Fu
It kinda takes off after the second movie where Po went on a small journey to gather supplies for his father's noodle's shop in the next village Called Tao valley known for their large peach orchards. Though on the path towards the valley he thought he saw a female panda trying out kung fu but not doing as well. When he tried to rub his eyes he saw she was gone from his sight. He couldn't help but wondered who this new panda was though seeing quiet a few of the villagers were preparing to send some of their harvest away. After asking the owners of the main peach farm about some bandits demanding their best crops for their safety inside the valley. Though after a scruffle in the marketplace by Po and some of the bandit Crocs. The villagers were grateful as well the girl panda finally meets Po for the first time. Unware the leading of them was Tai Long and Su Wu and her sisters had teamed up to defeat the dragon warrior soon finding out there was a panda in Tao Valley part of their territory knowing the villagers must be punished for lying not having a panda in their mists. While Po trying to talk his new friend on coming back with him to Peace Valley.

Series: Pokemon

Title of the plot:A Breeder meets a Prince

During the time of the random attacks and rants of team Plasma, Prince N often wondered around through the towns. When on missions or his own business until he reached Icirrus City. Having heard that there's a breeder who is keeping a legendary pokemon egg in her possession. This angers N very much to keep such a beautiful and powerful pokemon from it's freedom. Though when he entered the city, he had met a unusual pokemon breeder that came off that she has the same sense as him only in a different way. Her method of treating pokemon as equals more of family and friends both captured and wild welcoming them on the property. This confused the poor sheltered prince very deeply he had been taught that people abuse pokemon as if they were toys and yet, this one doesn't follow the static quo. But having entered the nursery he saw the egg he been told to get now it's up to N to make a very big choice call off the mission and protect the breeder or turn her in to ghetsis along with the rest of her pokemon family.

Today is the start of the Season 2 NA Regionals at PAX Prime in Seattle Washington. With a $150,000USD prize pool, and the chance of a salaried eSports career in the Season 3 Championship Series every team wants to place in the top 3. Here's a quick overview of the first round matches and some of the picks. First round matches are Bo3 and single elimination.

Team Curse vs TSM Evo
Aug 30, 11AM PDT/2PM EDT/8PM CEST

Pingmeep:
Curse has been outperforming Evo on LAN events as of late. I hate betting against Nhat and Co. but aside from cheese and counter cheese I just can't see a way for Evo to make it through.

Curse > Evo: playing much better than Evo lately.

Curse has been performing at the last LAN events, and have been a top 3-4 team since they got their gaming house/apartment.

Evo has been extremely quiet in the past few weeks, but the loss of Aphromoo gives me deep concerns about their ability to perform against Curse who has been picking up a lot of steam lately.

Curse has the hot hand coming off some impressive games in Raleigh where they swore they were still holding back. Evo has been a crowd pleaser for some time, but the loss of their nhatphromoo bottom lane is likely to cause them problems against Cop and Elementz. 2-0 to Curse

Team SoloMid vs Monomaniac Ferus

On paper this is supposed to be the easiest match to call. TSM is top seed in NA and mMe.ferus (formerly mTw.NA) barely squeaked by with a winning tiebreaker vs Orbit Gaming at MLG over the weekend. Still to me this feels like either a clean sweep or upset waiting to happen.

LightBlind: TSM > mMe ferus: TSM at LAN is beast.

TSM > Ferus. Ferus is really strong, but TSM has been practicing for weeks. I expect something new to come out from them.

TSM. Ferus has a solid chance at pulling a win out, but there's some sort of tournament magic that TSM pulls out of their pants to just straight up win tournaments. Pants magic.

Ferus has been firing on all cylinders since the addition of Aphromoo to their lineup, but they're going head to head with one of the most accomplished and storied teams in the game's history. TSM comes into this event fresh, sharp and hungry after their decision not to participate in MLG Raleigh and they'll be out for blood and the $40k top prize. 2-1 to TSM

Team Dignitas vs Team Dynamic
Aug 31, 11AM PDT/2PM EDT/8PM CEST

Pingmeep:
Perhaps the closest match-up. Dignitas may have held back against Dynamic before but few teams can see through cheese like TD and make it to a point where they can win. 2-1 for Team Dignitas but some of the toughest matches of the first round.

Dig > TD: Close match, Dig have had trouble with TD before but they will have strats prepared so should win.

AttackFang:
TD > Dig. I'm going out on a limb on this one. Dynamic has looked a LOT better since they reestablished the lineup they had at IPL4.

I think Dig still has this. TD has never been a consistent tournament team and their live tourney play is pretty all over the place. Dig, on the other hand, consistently plays well and basically walked over the field at Raleigh and they gave up a game to TD, but eh. EH.

Dignitas come from Raleigh into the regionals with a pair of wins over Dynamic and a lot to prove after the controversy surrounding the grand finals. Dignitas also claim to have a few nasty surprises for their opponents, expect to see them come out swinging against the youngsters. 2-0 to Dig

Counter Logic Gaming Prime vs Team Legion
Aug 31, 2PM PDT/5PM EDT/11PM CEST

CLG.Prime has been to Korea and has played against and scrimmed some of the best teams in that region. With the depth of experience and finally competing in NA with their full roster they should take out LgN. CLG's rushed departure out of Korea to avoid Typhoon Bolaven may have shaved some of the most precious practice time. If they didn't do their homework LgN could surprise them for a game and maybe the series. Still I'm betting that CLG will try to use the conventional wisdom to take out Lautemortis with a jungle invade at 1:55 and keep the advantage with better mechanics.

CLG > LGN. Jiji is king.

LGN at this point is an also-ran. They were streaky at best in their original incarnation as RFLX and they have failed to produce anything significant in recent months to make anyone things CLG could be toppled. BUT HEY! Surprises are always fun.

Legion put their mark on the community with an outstanding performance at IPL Face Off in San Francisco. If there is a matchup that could see a huge upset, this might be the one. CLG's success in this tournament will be dependent on their bottom lane: they will live or die by Doublelift's performance. One more thing to remember going into the regionals: CLG have not won a top-tier tournament since MLG Raleigh 2011. 2-1 to CLG

Munich, Germany August 28 2012: Patients who resume smoking after a stroke increase their risk of death by three-fold, according to research presented at ESC Congress 2012 by Professor Furio Colivicchi from San Filippo Neri Hospital. The researchers also found that the earlier patients resume smoking, the greater their risk of death with one year.

"It is well established that smoking increases the risk of having a stroke," said Professor Colivicchi. "Quitting smoking after an acute ischemic stroke may be more effective than any medication in reducing the risk of further adverse events. However, on the other hand, our study shows that stroke patients resuming active smoking after leaving the hospital can raise their risk of dying by as much as three-fold."

The purpose of the study was to gauge the effects of resuming smoking after a stroke, and to see how many patients are likely to relapse. Cardiologists from S. Filippo Neri Hospital in Rome, in collaboration with neurologists from the Santa Lucia Foundation of Rome, tracked 921 patients (584 men and 337 women, mean age 67 16 years) who reported being regular smokers before they were hospitalized with acute ischemic stroke.

All patients ceased smoking while in the hospital and declared themselves motivated to continue abstaining once they were discharged. In addition, all patients attended brief smoking cessation counseling sessions while in the hospital, but no nicotine replacement or other smoking cessation help was provided after they left the hospital.

Patients were interviewed about their smoking status at one, six, and 12 months after their release from the hospital and by the end of the first year 493 (53%) had resumed regular smoking. Older patients and women were more likely to relapse.

Within a year 89 patients died, which equates to a one-year probability of death of 9.6%. After adjusting for patient ages and other clinical variables such as stroke severity, presence of diabetes, hypertension or coronary artery disease, the researchers found that resuming smoking raised a person's risk of death by about three-fold compared to patients who didn't relapse. Moreover, the earlier a patient relapsed, the more likely he or she was to die within a year. "In fact, those who resumed smoking within 10 days of leaving the hospital were five times more likely to die within a year than those who continued to abstain," said Professor Colivicchi.

He added: "The results of this study suggest that healthcare providers should take smoking cessation interventions more seriously, as recommended treatments are not making their way into practice. A successful programme to help stroke patients quit smoking should take a comprehensive long-term approach, including individual counseling, post-discharge support and pharmacological treatment."

Eaton To Develop Predictive Battery Management Technology For ...

SOUTHFIELD ? Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. announced it is strengthening its commitment to hybrid vehicle technology by developing a cost-effective power control system to reduce the size of the system battery without a loss of battery life or vehicle performance. The fuel-efficient application is intended to optimize the operation of hybrid electric vehicles, from passenger cars to commercial vehicles.

The $2.8 million project is funded jointly between Eaton and a grant from the Department of Energy?s Advanced Research Projects Agency ? Energy. The goal is to reduce the size of the battery by 50 percent and improve the total performance of the system and its charge rate while maintaining fuel economy and overall vehicle performance.

?This project is a continuation of Eaton?s keen focus on hybrid technology development and our confidence in the value of hybrids for the future,? said Tom Stover, chief technology officer for Eaton?s Vehicle Group. ?Eaton is continuing to invest in developing the infrastructure that supports the future of the transportation industry, and this project is an example of how we are working to find safe, efficient and sustainable ways to improve hybrid vehicle performance.?

The development project will be led by Eaton?s Innovation Center team in Southfield, who will work with a team from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Eaton?s engineers and scientists will leverage the company?s expertise in intelligent power management systems and hybrid technology with the NREL?s expertise in battery modeling and prognostics.

In addition to hybrid vehicle applications, Eaton sees opportunities to extend this technology into other areas where hybrid power management requires extended battery life, including community infrastructure, data centers, manufacturing and industrial.

?Only the best projects were chosen for this highly selective grant,? said Chris Roche, Eaton?s vice president, Innovation Center, Corporate Technology. ?This type of grant is designed to fund highly transformative technologies, and Eaton and ARPA-E believe this technology is a true game changer in the area of hybrid power management.?

This is the second ARPA-E grant that Eaton has received within the past month. The other project was a $3.4 million grant to develop affordable home refueling stations for natural gas vehicles. Eaton also has received Department of Energy grants in the past 12 months for the development of technologies for compressed natural gas, research on waste heat recovery for commercial vehicles, and fuel cell expander research.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Every now and then, an event awakens the ever-slumbering tensions between the Republican Party's two core wings: social conservatives and corporate interests.

A Missouri congressman's comment about rape and pregnancy was one such moment, and it came just as Republicans were hoping for a united front at their convention to nominate Mitt Romney for president.

A full-blown rupture ? such as the one at the 1992 convention, when a defeated candidate declared a national "culture war" ? seems unlikely. But even a modest squabble between key party factions might raise concerns in a tight presidential race.

Romney joined other mainstream Republicans in denouncing the Aug. 19 remarks by Rep. Todd Akin, the party's Senate nominee in Missouri. Akin said rape victims can generally avoid pregnancy because "if it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down."

Romney called Akin's comments "offensive and wrong." He unsuccessfully urged Akin to quit the Senate race.

Like many other top Republicans, Romney stopped short of criticizing Akin's stand on abortion, as opposed to his comments about rape and conception. Akin opposes abortion in all cases, including rape.

Romney had to struggle for their support during the Republican primaries, when Newt Gingrich briefly depicted him as a "vulture capitalist." Romney's most persistent rival was Rick Santorum, a hero to anti-abortion activists and home-schoolers.

Now that the primaries are over, and unaffiliated voters are crucial this fall, Republican leaders would rather keep the abortion debate to a simmer, not a boil.

Last week, the party's platform committee approved a provision that backs the "Human Life Amendment," a proposed constitutional amendment that would ban abortion, with no exceptions for rape or incest. The Republican platforms in 2004 and 2008 did the same. That might surprise some GOP-leaning centrists, who rarely hear Republican presidents or congressional leaders make loud, full-bore pushes to outlaw abortion.

"Ronald Reagan used to talk about the party's three-legged stool: fiscal conservatives, social conservatives and national-security conservatives," said Dan Schnur, a former Republican adviser who now teaches political science at the University of Southern California.

"At best, it's a three-legged stool," Schnur said. "At worst, it's three scorpions in a bottle."

The party's factions usually coexist peacefully, he said, but "the Akin matter makes it a lot harder."

The visibility and prominence of national-security conservatives have waned in recent years, partly because of widespread disillusionment with the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But business-oriented fiscal conservatives remain vitally important, as do social conservatives, who play big roles in swing states including Iowa, Florida and North Carolina.

The Akin episode ignited new tensions between the groups. Mike Huckabee, the Baptist minister and former Arkansas governor, ripped into establishment Republicans for trying to force Akin from the Senate race.

In a conference call monitored by CNN, Huckabee, who ran for president in 2008, likened the National Republican Senatorial Committee to "union goons" trying to kneecap rivals.

Romney needs as much peace between the factions as possible.

Corporate conservatives provide a disproportionate amount of funding for the GOP. Casino owner Sheldon Adelson, for instance, has pledged more than $10 million for groups opposing President Barack Obama. The wealthy industrialist brothers David and Charles Koch have donated and helped raise millions more.

Religious conservatives and anti-abortion activists, meanwhile, provide thousands of foot soldiers to knock on doors and make phone calls for candidates they support.

"The Akin case shows that the Republican establishment will pander to the social conservatives until they become a liability," said Democratic strategist Doug Hattaway. "But the Wall Street/country club set still rely on the right-wing religious vote to prop up the party at the polls."

Some veteran Republican operatives question why Romney maintains ties with Donald Trump, who continues to question whether Obama was born in the United States.

A hard, clean break with Trump, however, might alienate a small but fervent group of conservatives who, for now, are in Romney's corner.
